I am a software and systems researcher and developer. My core interests are in information system design, the usability of systems, broadly conceived, and evaluation of complex systems that have been implemented in the field. My focus is on the use of techniques and tools from design rationale as a bridge between the attributes of technologies for managing information, and the social and psychological characteristics of the people who adopt and use them. As an academic
I have been drawn to the applied side of research. I am interested
in understanding the essential nature of information systems design
affordances and believe that this understanding is best (but not
only) achieved though immersive study of social systems and what
happens when systems are introduced as actors and infrastructure
within organizations.
